Since creating a Pinterest account, I find myself thinking this more and more. I am amazed by how creative some people are and my DIY board has inspired me to try a variety of projects. This morning, I was going through a friend's "Crafts" board and I found a link to DIY Colored Bobby Pins. As usual, I thought to myself, "Why didn't I think of this?!" I see them in the store all the time, but I never thought to make them at home.
Naturally, I dropped everything I was doing (I closed my laptop...) and got to work. I probably have close to a hundred bobby pins because I misplace them all the time, so I figured I could spare a few. And what girl doesn't have a dozen bottles of nail polish that she will never finish lying around? This project really couldn't get any easier.
Materials:
- Bobby Pins
- Nail Polish
- Cardboard - I just used a piece of junk mail.
- Nail File
- (Optional) Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating
Black, Pink, Silver, Purple, Gold, Blue, Glitter and Turquoise.
I would let them dry overnight. For some of the lighter colors, I added a second coat of nail polish. When I removed the bobby pins from the cardboard, some paper did stick to the nail polish while it was drying. To fix this, I used a nail file to smooth the sides of the bobby pins. I also decided to use an Acrylic Coating Spray on the bobby pins once they dried (I use Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating) because I was a little worried about the nail polish chipping off. So far, so good! You can probably use clear nail polish as well. This project only took me 10-15 minutes for 16 bobby pins and I already had the materials. This is one of those "Pinterest Projects" that really is as easy as it looks. Dare I say one of the easiest, and the results are picture perfect.
Most importantly, here is the link from Pinterest: http://ohhelloblog.posterous.com/simple-hair-accessory. I would love to take credit for this genius idea, but credit must be given when it is due!
Until inspiration strikes again,
J
